This is the submission of Wetlands International to the "Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action under the Convention"; the working group working on a post-Kyoto climate treaty.
Description:
Our main attention goes to the position of greenhouse gas emissions from degraded peatlands. In the current climate treaty, the emissions are in fact ignored. A new treaty should install incentives for countries to manage their peatlands well, to prevent the loss of the carbon in the peatlayers.
